Early wake up and late for bad was my life for the past 4 days, Tuesday morning, my elementary school classmate paid a visit to me, Amos was with him and helping turn around his company for like 6 months, but in vain, Amos not only feel frustrated about the whole situation, but also review his friendship with Mr. Chen, I am not surprise to know he will visit me since we accidentally met at my EMBA classmates' office; what surprise me is he brought his friends ( I guess ) without notify me, so, I cant' really enjoy this appointment.
Martin came and visit by noon, son of Mr. Yu- my respected old friend, Martin is a typical money hunting man, always looking for niche where he can learn easy money, like shark smell the blood in the wild sea; so, his impression to me is poor, of course, the communication between father and son is a problem in Yu's family, I knows many untold story by Mr. Yu as we are close friend when in the entertainment days, we still keep contact but with lower frequency, I shall always take Mr. Yu's story as an example or textbook avoiding making wrong steps in my life.
Fix my teeth in Tuesday afternoon, I have a doubt that the dentist who perform the duty is not a certified dentist, because it really hurt, not to mention the drill break my lips, I really can't image a pregnant woman will use the dental tools so rude, it's a terrifying experience. Night ping pong was called by me as I can't make it on Wed and not able to attend in this coming Saturday as well, yes. all sweet out, relax and exciting.
CHT meeting was long again, I am not sure if this time we will getting somewhere, but David turn to another person, before the meeting, we met with Chairman of CHT and apology for the postponing of the original scheduled meeting between this 2 big shot, after the courtesy greeting, we will sent to the meeting room,. then the topic of what to be discussed arose, it make my colleague from Japan feel so uncomfortable, and the meeting centralized on one subject -- MOD. I can't see a chance that MOD goanna success anywhere, so, this is not a smart move to join the " fail project ", how to drag the procedure and not to hurt their feeling is a key issue. what make my other colleague unhappy is there's no " Fair " trade off opportunity for us to express, so the prerequisite for the meeting is not sustain yet.
Dinner with special sales dept is interesting, COO pick the 55 years old restaurant -- Yin Yi -- everyone enjoy the meal and the conversation in between, this time, I found the team is more vital and energetic, probably due to the great performance for the month and partly because we know each other better then before, during the dinner, everyone talked about their school life and the old TAIWAN days.
this morning, we met Mr. Tsai - minister without portfolio at the Science and Technology building, the purpose for the meeting is to share with Mr. Tsai what we face for a unfair competition in the market and to address our foreign investment viewpoint toward this issue, giving pressure to governmental body better be performed by foreigner, unfortunately COO is out for business trip, thus I need to delivery the message and play the bad guy again.
Inviting Marketing team for lunch and join their weekly meeting is the thing I did today, I used to head the marketing team and always feel like sharing marketing ideas with colleague, I been away from the marketing session for too long, to sit on the meeting give me new aspects of how the team running now
I delivered a very strong message to our product manager during our weekly managers' meeting this morning, we had such a managers' meeting for 2 years, everyone attend the meeting knows that the update status and to do is essential to our progress improvement, he failed to delivered all his " Ok " on last week's meeting follow up; all the manger shall equipped at lease 2 major skill , one is on his or her field of expertise, the other is the general administrative function, I haven’t burst out angry for a long time, but I am serious about this unpleasant situation this morning, if a man can't keep his promise / commitment in, then don't expect them to deliver the outstanding results.
After the quick lunch, I rush to the e21Forum held at TICC, I am expecting to hear some wisdom or innovative speech, but I was wrong, it's like a promotion for 2 brand - Intel and Texas Instrument, I am disappointed to say that even the top tier executive can't really provide a speech with insights and inspiration; 2 accidental things happen at the venue, one MBA student sit beside me, we had a little chat, my advise to him is don't simplify the life in army, it sometimes will give you new aspect to your life, the Steven approach me and say Hi -- my EMBA Classmate who told me he just resigned from one of the top PC company, we chat for a few minutes, when I walked out the venue earlier and found him is leaving, I catch him and invited him for a coffee, then he told me why is leaving and the struggle he's been facing for the last 2 years, I didn't provide much of my experience but to act as a mirror to him, we spend like 50 minutes and I really hope what we shared can mean something to him.
Dinner with another ISP is an interesting encounter, at the dinner hosted by them, the general manager raised an idea of merge our two company and complimentary win the market and become the absolute No. 2 in the market; it reflect on earlier this morning, when I recall the kick-off meeting document and present the message and visions to all the managers' again, we realized half of our goals been achieved, we are the players in the broadband ISP realm, this is the main reason why this company re-establish the dialogue with me and propose such an aggressive idea; if this is only in operation level, we may achieved some, if this is an fundamental change of tow entity, then I don't think it will work, but during the dinner, we learned what is " Port wine " and understand the best year for red wine is year 2000; Tenpenyaki is delicious, they are interesting, we had a good night.
It's a lazy Sunday, I missed all my Sunday to do's, fail to compile the textbook list for classmate-- fail to deliver my promise again and again; prepare nothing about my thesis -- no improving at all and force me to postpone my appointment with faculty on Monday; go out buying meat dumpling for branch, then sit on the sofa, slip in the DVD and watching the documentary of " Genghis Blues " , although I am sleepy and falling asleep in the last 20 minutes, but I managed to capture the spirit of the documentary -- it's a story about finding your own roots and show it to the world, the story begin with an American blues artist - a blind bluesman who shall be immigrated to the States quite a long time ago, searching for the ancient tribe and the music they heritages -- the lost kingdom which they called " Tuva " was located between the boarder of China and Russian, the music they perform is so unique -- the throat singing, Peter forming or contact with the " Friends of Tuva " association and assemble a music cal term to find where he belongs, it may compare with the ' Buna Vista Social Club " story the Ry Cooder re-discover the Cuban musician and show it to the world. root and music from the root help traces the history long lost in the immigrant’s heart.
I slept for 90 minutes around and awoke by the quarrel between my wife and 2 kids. thy fight for the home work again, I settle them down, it's weird to know that you are deep in sleep and heard the sound around you but you are dreaming in somewhere..., by 6:30 when all the home assignment were done, my mom comes home from her regular exercise, I brought my wife to Circle for the street vendor delicious again; this time, we found the short cut to the parking lot and find our way to the night market , it's amazing to learn that we didn't find the correct route after all the years; again, we ate Turkey rice, Oyster cake, Deep fly fish belly and a lot of vegetables; go home we pick another DVD -- Killing Emit.
I don't do any home work, don't read any good book, don't spend decent time with family but to lie down and do nothing for Sunday. I feel guilty, I shall confess, may I asked who else participate on my line and do exactly the same on last Sunday?
My second YPO dinner took place on Thursday night, it was a monthly ( to be specific , they names it monthly gathering, but not in monthly routine ) gala . this time, the venue is Regent Hotel, there's an unwritten rule that none of the YPOer shall disclose his or her activity in YPO to the public, as a candidate, I shall follow the rule but only touch upon skin deep of the gathering; the session was chaired by day chairman, they organized the event with program, today's program is " Eat Health, good sexy ", we taste the healthy cuisine for dinner and listen to Dr. Lin's speech of how to anti-aging and what to eat, how to cook to keep a healthy life, I do agree with his opinions, such as " live 120 years old is not the goal, but to live healthy is much more important " I took notes during dinner and exchange business card with most of the YPOer, to me, they are all celebrity.
Friday, I attend the whole day seminar conducted by Business Week Asia -- I obtain the invitation from Atos-Origin and access to the seminar free of charge, I think the only benefit I get it to sit in an international seminar and to improve my English listening skill, I am not sure if I am too old for the educational seminar or my EMBA Classes provide more broader view then the seminar itself. the subject can't really cause my attention since I knew a lot better then some of the speakers; the interactive media survey during the seminar is quite interesting, you can interactively know the statistic when the speaker pull out a questionnaire, then the result will come once you push the bottom for your favor answer, then all the attendee will know the outcome of this group's genetic response to the question, the first question is the most interested one, it asked the purpose for CEO 's to attend the seminar, the longest bar from the chart is " relax from the office " the seminar makes me go home earlier, we go for a new movie " Italian job ", it's a re-shooting story based on the 1967 old movie, no blood and not vicious violence, thieves use their brain to perform their specialty, the story is tight and with logic, I enjoy it a lot.
I was called to shooting a commercial film for the upcoming Taiwan International Business Alliance event , to be a image spoke person for government is sort of honor, although I am not favor current ruling administration, but why they pick up me is a don't know answer. I go for the shooting on Sat. morning, thanks for my entertainment background, I was told by the director that my performance is kind of professional, I done both TV and Radio commercial within 15 minutes, the schedule for broadcasting the film is from Sep.29, I am curious to know how I looked on CF as a Taiwan spoke person.
Saturday afternoon, the routine ping-pong exercise, I am relatively good. all the team members except Eric went for dinner together, I invited Henry to join us as I thought OSKing and Henry are one of a kind, shall encounter and come out with some wisdom or sparks; I choose the restaurant, a Shanghai cousin, the food is great but the guest there was a little bit complicate, I thinks some gangs love to eat there, anyway, We had a very good meal and spend a very good night.
